MarcLo steps into his own spotlight on finding records — a South Florida-born, LA-based artist and multi-Grammy-nominated songwriter, sharing his R&B/Soul album 11 Days in April.
introduce yourself please.
my name is MarcLo, i was born and raised in South Florida and am based in LA. i create all different genres of music but i am excited to share my R&B/Soul album 11 Days in April.
if you had to describe your music using only fruits and veggies, which ones would you choose?
bananas for obvious reasons, and yellow is one of my colors. spinach because it is delicious and nutritious.
could you describe the community you grew up in and share with us any unique traditions?
i grew up in a predominately black community for the greater 1st half of my youth. i feel like that made me who i am. growing up in and around Ft. Lauderdale i felt a deep connection to the community, it was almost like a tribe adults served as parental figures to children who weren't their own. there were many parades and presentations celebrating and informing about black culture. it gave us kids a sense of pride and belonging that was a pillar in our core make up.
what do you miss the most about your hometown?
South Florida is so rich in culture when it comes to languages, customs, food, dance and music. it's a melting pot between all different types of people from American, The Caribbean, Latin America and European backgrounds and more. i find myself missing that environment being in LA.
if you could only listen to one album on repeat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
i could play my album 11 Days on repeat for the rest of my life.
if you encounter an alien, alien asks you to play earth music, which song would you like to play?
Prototype by Andre 3000.
any closing words?
my album 11 Days was out on my birthday April 17th! when i sat down to write this album, it was January 2025 and the LA fires were raging. i knew i needed to make a collection of songs. not knowing what the songs would sound like or be about, my only goal was to make something uplifting for people to hear in a difficult time. i hope it connects to you in that way.
