Xica Soul is back on the electric cleaners archive — a Los Angeles DJ, originally from South San Diego, repping Dublab and moving fluidly between house, electro, disco, and 90s-leaning sounds.
please introduce yourself.
i'm Xica Soul, a Los Angeles-based DJ originally from South San Diego. i play genre-fluid sets that move between house, electro, disco, and a lot of 90s-inspired sounds, always guided by feeling and groove. i'm deeply connected to the LA dance music community and host a monthly show called SoundProof on Dublab, where i explore the deeper and more atmospheric sides of my record collection.
if you had to describe your music using only elements from nature, which ones would you choose?
i'd say water and night air. water because my sets tend to flow between different tempos and textures — sometimes calm, sometimes driving. and night air because there's always a bit of mystery in the atmosphere i try to create, something that feels open and a little transportive.
what childhood memory has influenced your sound today?
one of my earliest musical memories is riding in the car with my dad on long Sunday drives. he used to make these really carefully curated mixtapes, and they'd move between funk, oldies, disco, and new wave. i didn't realize it at the time, but those transitions between totally different moods stuck with me. i think that's why my sets today are so genre-fluid — i'm always chasing that feeling of discovery and movement between sounds that somehow still feel connected.
do you have any specific routine, habit, or pre-gig ritual when you DJ?
djing is such an exchange of energy, so i try to arrive with a clear head and an open mind. i'll be honest — i'm usually rushing before gigs, but if i can, i do like to take a quiet moment before a set. maybe step outside, take a breath, and reset. after that, it's really about trusting my instincts and letting the music lead.
any closing words?
my goal is to keep learning, digging, and creating spaces where people can connect through music. i'm really excited to share this mix and grateful to everyone who continues to listen and support the journey ♡
